Google Maps tests the redesign of its interface with these changes

MADRID (Portaltic/EP).- Google began testing a redesign of its Google Maps interface on Android devices, with which it gives prominence to the map screen and introduces rounded corners for pop-up windows, as well as a button to facilitate their use. closing.

The American technology company continues working to improve the user experience in the application, such as with new functions based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) that, as was announced in April, will arrive to offer features such as the discovery of places.

Now, Google is testing the modification of the Google Maps interface on Android devices, in order to offer more context and information at a glance, as well as to give more priority to the maps themselves.

In this sense, one of the aspects that Google has changed is that the map screen will always be visible, even if it is only a piece, so that the map is always within reach of users with a single touch.

That is, even if information windows are opened or you are browsing between different options, for example, when discovering new places with the ‘Latest in the area’ section, these windows will not occupy the entire screen as they did until now, but rather they will be displayed as pop-up windows.

Likewise, the windows and menus will take up less space and will have rounded corners, which offer a more marked pop-up window appearance, emphasizing the intention of preventing them from taking up the entire screen and continuing to display the background map.

Additionally, pop-up windows can now be easily closed so users can quickly return to the map by simply clicking on a new ‘X’ icon next to the share button in the top right corner of the window. emergent.

This has been announced by the media 9to5Google, which has identified these new features implemented in the interface for Android devices thanks to a server-side update to which it has had access.

The same media has pointed out that, when searching for a route to a specific destination, Google has changed the place of the different transportation options – walking, by car, public transport or bicycle, among others – introducing them in the lower window of indications.

That is, now they do not appear at the top of the screen, in the window in which the route directions are entered, but have been moved to the bottom of the screen to improve accessibility and visibility. Therefore, they are placed above the information of each possible route.

At the moment, these new features have not yet been widely implemented in version 11.127.x of Google Maps for Android devices, so, according to 9to5Google This is a redesign being tested.
