Glyka Nera: Babis Anagnostopoulos is a candidate for the Panhellenic elections – which school does he want to attend

Babis Anagnostopoulos, who is participating in this year’s Panhellenic exams, was examined yesterday in the Modern Greek Language and Literature course.

The 33-year-old pilot is serving his sentence in Malandrino prison for the murder of his wife, Caroline Crouchs in Glyka Nera.

It is noted that the pilot wanted to study law last year, while his goal this year is psychology and sociology.

As it has become known, the 33-year-old reads daily and systematically, while he is also employed in the financial management of the prison’s canteen.

“Prisoners’ right to education”

Referring to the education of prisoners, the Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection, Andreas Nikolakopoulos says:

“At the core of prison policy is the education of prisoners, which is a right, a condition for social reintegration and non-recidivism. We are making a great effort to strengthen the educational structures in all prisons and to give every prisoner the right to be educated, to develop his individual and social skills. In this context, we have formed educational structures in all prisons”.

As he says:

“Among them, we give the right to every prisoner who has completed secondary education, either within an educational structure that exists in prisons, or individually, to be able to apply and take Panhellenic exams”.

“Each application is made and examined by the competent council. What we want to be understood is that regardless of the offense he has committed, it is a right that we want to give to every prisoner precisely to avoid any relapse and the commission of new criminal acts, either outside or inside the penitentiaries. When it is determined by the board that the particular circumstances of each defendant’s case and personality show that the primary purpose is not education but something else, it may deny this right. The main objective of the prison policy is to give prisoners the right to be educated”, he adds.

It is noted that 57 prisoners are taking the nationwide exams.
