Gloria Estefan wins the Leyenda award at the Billboard gala

SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- Cuban singer Gloria Estefan received the Leyenda award within the Billboard Latin Women in Music 2024 gala.

The singer, actress, composer, author and philanthropist received an award that recognizes the 47 years of artistic career of a legend of Cuban and international music.

Accompanied by her husband, producer Emilio Estefan, the artist received the award and expressed her excitement for the distinction. “They are going to make me cry,” she said, as seen in the videos that captured the moment, published by the channel Telemundo.

“Thank you Billboard for being there behind my career. Thank you Leila [Cobo] for creating this impressive way to celebrate women who, we have to celebrate ourselves every time we can,” exclaimed Gloria Estefan.

Camila Cabello awarded

The Billboard Latina Women in Music franchise, which recognizes the relevance of women of Latin origin in the music industry, also celebrated Camila Cabello, winner of the Global Impact Award.

Cabello was grateful for the occasion and for having been recognized along with singers like Gloria Estefan and other honorees at the gala.

Last year, Cuban-American singer-songwriter and producer Gloria Estefan made history by becoming the first Latina woman to be inducted into the United States Songwriters Hall of Fame. The recognition ceremony took place at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York, where Gloria Estefan attended accompanied by her family and her husband.

This award “is something incredibly special for me, and I want to thank so many people for listening and giving me the joy of being able to communicate through music, it is the most beautiful gift they could give me,” said the singer during the gala.

Likewise, he noted that “music saved his life” when his family was forced to start a new life, referring to exile, when he was 16 years old, the age at which he emigrated to the United States. “Music was my therapy,” she said.
