Global advanced smartwatch market likely to see 15 percent annual growth to 2024: Report

New Delhi: The global high-end operating system (or advanced) smartwatch market is expected to see 15 percent annual growth through 2024, a new report said on Monday. According to Counterpoint Research, the bulk of this growth will come from non-Apple smartphone users adopting Google Wear OS-based smartwatches if outside China or Huawei HarmonyOS-based smartwatches if in China.
Analysts estimate Google Wear OS’ share of the advanced smartwatch segment outside China to grow to 27 percent in 2024. This growth will be primarily driven by the availability of more advanced smartwatches powered by Wear OS, such as those adopted by the latest Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 series as well as the Google Pixel and OnePlus Watch 2. Apart from Wear OS, analysts are seeing the growth of HarmonyOS driven by the growing popularity of Huawei smartwatches in China. “In 2023, overall HarmonyOS shipments grew nearly 2x, surpassing Apple’s WatchOS. HarmonyOS’ shipment share is projected to reach 61 percent in China in 2024, up from 48 percent in 2023, said associate director Ethan Qi. In terms of smartwatch chipsets, the report mentions that Apple and Samsung currently account for two-thirds of the advanced smartwatch market. Hengxuan and Qualcomm are expected to see double-digit growth this year, the report said.
