The Board of Directors of SSR, through its President Jean-Michel Cina and General Director Gilles Marchand, announced in a press release on Thursday that a succession process at the helm of SSR will soon begin.

The SRG therefore intends to prepare for the political deadlines that await it in 2026 with the “200 francs are enough” initiative and in 2027 with the negotiation of its new concession. A new directorate general is expected to be operational by early 2025 at the latest.

Early departure

Gilles Marchand was due to end his term at the beginning of 2027, at the age of 65. This timetable would have entailed a recruitment and succession procedure in 2026, in the middle of the voting period, explains the SRG. In this context, the Board of Directors and the General Director have decided to bring forward this departure in order to establish a new general management to prepare for the aforementioned deadlines.

The competition notice will be launched shortly, the press release specifies. The process will be guided by the Personnel Committee of the Board of Directors.

Having joined SSR in 2001, Gilles Marchand headed Télévision Suisse Romande (TSR) from 2001 to 2010 before becoming head of Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS), a position he held until 2017. In October 2017 he became general director of SSR.
