According to the management of the Seaside Aquarium located in the city of Seaside, the fish, known as the Hoodwinker sunfish, measuring 222.50 centimeters, was found on May 3 at Gearhart beach.
“Initially, this strange giant fish caused a stir on social media and people flocked to the beach to see this unusual species even in stormy conditions,” he said on his Facebook account as reported by the Mirror, Monday (10/6 /2024).
The fish are believed to live in temperate waters but have recently been stranded on beaches from California to Alaska, where the waters are colder.
The Seaside Aquarium added that this discovery is likely the largest fish ever seen or stranded on a Pacific Northwest beach.
A giant ocean sunfish known as “HOODWINKER” was found stranded on the coast of Gearhart, Oregon, United States on May 27, 2024. This fish is about 10 feet (3 meters) long and weighs about 2,000 pounds ( 907 kilograms).
The HOODWINKER is one of the largest sunfish ever recorded. This fish is known for its unique spot pattern, which makes it different from other sunfish. This spotted pattern is thought to be a form of camouflage, helping the fish to hide from predators.
The sunfish is the largest fish in the world. They can grow up to 18 feet (5.5 meters) long and weigh up to 4,000 pounds (1,814 kilograms). This fish is found in tropical and subtropical seas throughout the world.
The discovery of the HOODWINKER is a rare and exciting event. Sunfish are rarely seen near shore, and HOODWINKER is one of the largest ever recorded. This discovery is a reminder of the diversity and beauty of marine life.
