Thailand movie ‘P Chai Die Ka’ has won the Grand Pre -Award in the Wick Category of Kan Film Festival. It has made history as the first Thai movie to win in this category. The English name of the film is ‘A Useful Ghost’.
This independent production, directed by Rachpun Bunbunchak, on the one hand, is filled with humorous and ghostly stories, as it hides inside a sharp sarcastic presentation in the context of Thailand’s political violence. In the story, a wife returns to a ghost after death. Starting living with her husband, he masses in a vacuum cleaner.
This fancy and madness mixed stories actually highlight political violence as a powerful metaphor. The film adds to the laughter of the audience.
With this achievement, Thailand’s cinema was successful at the Cannes Film Festival after 5 years. Earlier in the year, Thailand’s renowned director Apichatpong Wiresetakul won the highest honor ‘Palm Daar’ in the main competition of the ear with the film ‘Uncle Bunami Hu Can Rikel His Past Lives’.
Earlier in 2021, Malaysian producer Amanda Yoy’s ‘Tiger Stripes’ won the Critics Week section as the first film in Southeast Asia.
