“Ghetto Games” will be able to operate in Grīziņkalni for another five years, but they will have to be quieter

Initially, it was planned to transfer this 6,678 square meter property for free use for two years, but after communication with “Getho Games” leader Raimonds Elbakyan, a proposal was submitted to extend this period for five years.

According to the rules set by the municipality, the “Ghetto Games” events will have to become quieter.

In addition to that, the contract is supposed to include a condition that silence should be observed in the mentioned territory during the night hours from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., without organizing sports events or sports-related activities during this time.

Possible sources of noise, such as loudspeakers, music players and other devices, will have to be placed by event organizers so that they are not directed towards residential areas, and also ensure that the generated sound power does not exceed 80 decibels, thus not exposing residents to the effects of increased noise.

The association did not object to the fact that the paths adjacent to the Grīziņkalns sports complex are not used as a parking lot. However, they objected to the condition that cars that do not have a “Riga Forests” pass cannot enter the Grīziņkalns sports complex. It is said to be complicated and financially expensive to ensure, because for the needs of the events, toilets are brought in/out and cleaned, trash is taken out/imported, the cooperation partners of the association deliver prizes every week, the total volume of cars within the entire active event season is around 50 units.
