MADRID, 5 (EUROPA PRESS)
The Minister of Foreign Affairs to Germany, Annalena Baerbock, condemned this Sunday the “brutal” attacks carried out against politicians and activists, whom she considers fundamental pillars of democratic societies.
“The brutal attacks against committed democrats, activists and politicians are attacks against the basis of our democracy: free elections,” denounced the German minister, in a publication on her account on the social network X, formerly Titter.
Baerbock has lamented that the reports published on the matter “are terrifying” and has stressed that “violence is never a means to democracy”, regardless of which part of the political spectrum one belongs to.
These statements come after the main candidate of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) for the European elections for the state of Saxony, Matthias Ecke, was hospitalized this Friday after being attacked by a group that the German Police are investigating as a possible far-right attack.
Ecke, 41, was beaten on Friday while putting up posters in the city of Dresden at around 10:30 p.m. The SPD reported this Saturday that Ecke was “seriously injured” in the face and next Monday he will undergo surgery.
