Gérard Depardieu was released on Monday afternoon after the 75-year-old French actor was questioned and arrested by police in Paris earlier in the day following two new complaints of sexual assault. BFMTV reports this.
Depardieu was summoned on Monday morning as part of a police investigation into sexual abuse. After an interrogation in a police station in the 14th arrondissement, the man was officially arrested and imprisoned. On Monday evening, Depardieu’s lawyer Christian Saint-Palais announced that “the police custody is over” and his client is therefore free again.
The French actor is accused of sexual assault by two women. The women in question accuse Depardieu of abuse on the sets of the films Le magicien et les siamois in 2014 and Volets verts in 2021.
Accusations
The first woman was 24 years old at the time of the events. At Le Courrier de l’Ouest she talks about “obscene comments” during meetings in her Parisian mansion, followed several times by assaults and propositions during filming.
The second woman (53) told Mediapart that the actor made a number of obscene comments during filming in Paris, and later “brutally grabbed her” and “kneaded her waist and stomach, up to her breasts”. He then allegedly said that he would “stick his big parasol in her pussy” (“Je vais te planter mon gros parasol dans ta chatte.”)
Depardieu denies
Depardieu has been dogged for years by dozens of accusations and complaints of inappropriate behavior, ranging from rude comments to assault and rape. The actor has always denied all allegations, and reportedly does so about these accusations.
