KRC Genk already prepared well for the future last summer. To anticipate the departure of Maarten Vandevoordt, who will move to RB Leipzig after this season, they brought in Hendrik Van Crombrugge. The former Anderlecht goalkeeper must fill the gap until the next talent from Genk’s goalkeeping school is ready.
After all, in Genk they strongly believe in Mike Penders, who however is only 18 years old. He currently plays for Jong Genk in the Challenger Pro League. To compete with him, Genk also signed another goalkeeper in the summer.
Boets has already left Jong Genk
After all, Keo Boets joined in mid-September. The 20-year-old arrived on a free transfer after failing to receive a new contract with STVV in the summer. He had been the third goalkeeper there last season, but the former youth international had to leave anyway.
However, Boets could not continue in Jong Genk either. Vic Chambaere (20) and Matthias Pieklak (17) were still ahead of him in the pecking order and so Boets didn’t get on the scoresheet even once. After less than half a season he is already looking for other places.
Thes Sport needed a goalkeeper
Genk will send him on loan to Thes Sport, current number thirteen of the first national team, for the rest of the season. They were looking for a new goalkeeper because first choice Tibo Herbots has been out of action for a long time.
For Boets it will be a return to the old nest, because he took his first football steps in the youth teams of Thes Sport. “It’s a fun adventure for me and I’m very happy to have this opportunity”, expresses great satisfaction the young talent.
