General Customs announces a competition to grant licenses to practice the customs clearance profession

The General Customs Directorate announced a competition to select 100 people to grant them the necessary license to practice the customs clearance profession.

According to a circular issued by the Directorate, SANA received a copy of it, anyone wishing to apply for the competition must be Syrian or someone of the same status for at least five years, enjoying his civil rights, not exceeding 50 years of age on the date of the announcement of the competition, and holding a university degree in law or economics. Or its equivalent, with the exception of customs employees who are in the first category, and must not be convicted of a felony or heinous misdemeanor, and must not be a state employee whose services were terminated for disciplinary reasons or dismissal from service.

It is also required that the applicant has performed the compulsory service or been exempt from it, and must be conversant in one foreign language (English – French), and hold an International Computer Driving License certificate, and have knowledge of customs laws and procedures, and not combine the customs clearance profession with any other work of any kind. And to have an office in the event of success in the competition after obtaining the license.

Applications are submitted to the General Office of the General Customs Directorate and its regional directorates, starting from the 26th of May until the 13th of next June. The automated written examination for applicants to the competition will be conducted at the University of Damascus on a date to be determined later.

According to the circular, the scientific materials required in the competition are determined by Customs Law No. 38 of 2006, the customs system, the second and third books published on the official website of the General Customs Directorate, the coordinated customs tariff published on the official website of the General Customs Directorate, and the decisions of the Ministry of Economy and the Central Bank of Syria regulating import operations. Export, Arabic language, foreign language, and general culture. Anyone who obtains at least 60 percent of the grade in the automated written and oral exam is considered successful in the competition.

Based on the circular, the Director of General Customs issues a decision that includes the names of the successful ones and they are accepted according to the sequence of their success degrees according to the required and announced number. Then the date for conducting interviews is determined orally for the successful ones at a later date, where the successful ones in the competition are subject to the training courses decided by the General Customs Directorate to grant a practicing license.
