Gaza / “Hell on Earth” – Horror from the Israeli attacks on the displaced persons camp in Rafah

THE United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) described today as terrifying the attacks targeting families who had sought refuge in Rafah, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

“Information coming from Rafa about more attacks on families seeking refuge is chilling. There is information about mass casualties, including women and childrenamong those killed… Gaza is hell on earth. The images from last night are further testimony to this,” UNRWA wrote in X.

THE presidency of the Palestinian Authority and the Hamas they accused Israel of committing massacre of civilians by targeting a reception center for displaced persons near Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip.

“This horrific massacre committed by the Israeli occupation constitutes challenge for all international institutions” and international “legitimacy”, the presidency of the Palestinian Authority underlined in a statement, complaining that the Israeli army “deliberately targeted” the Barkasat displaced persons camp, which is managed by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and is located northwest of Rafah.

For its part, the Israeli army announced in the early hours of this morning that it launched a bombardment with “precision munitions” against a “Hamas building complex in Rafah” where, according to it, “important terrorists” of the Palestinian Islamist movement were operating, adding that it is “aware” that “civilians were harmed” in the area and that the incident is “under investigation”.

According to the same source, the target was two Hamas officials in the West Bank, Yasin Rabia and Khaled Nagar. “The raid was carried out against legitimate targets under international law, using precision munitions, based on accurate intelligence on Hamas’ use of the area,” he added.

The Palestinian Civil Defense in the Gaza Strip announced that40 people were killed from the Israeli bombing of a camp in Rafah.

“The massacre committed by the Israeli occupation army in the refugee camps in the northwestern part of the city of Rafah, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, caused 40 ‘martyrs’ and 65 wounded,” said Mohammed al-Mughir.

In the meantime, Egypt condemned today “the deliberate shelling by Israeli forces of displaced persons’ tents” in Rafah.

From Cairo, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs requested in a statement by Israel “to implement the measures set by the International Court of Justice for the immediate termination of military operations” in Rafahlocated on the border with Egypt.
