Fruits and vegetables are one of the healthiest foods. Fruits and vegetables are the food in the diet of everyone who is on a diet, either because of diseases or for the purpose of losing weight. But some of these products, in addition to being a storehouse of vitamins, can also increase the amount of sugar in the blood.
Publika.az reports that according to nutritionist Ponomareva, although fruits and vegetables are one of the healthiest foods, some of them can cause a spike in blood sugar.
“Dieters usually have normal blood sugar levels because they avoid sugary foods and alcohol. However, the intake of fruits and vegetables that cause a spike in blood sugar can harm the health of those people. The reason for this is that the amount of sugar in their content is ignored.
Because the glycemic index tells how quickly the body breaks down carbohydrates into glucose, foods are rated as low, medium, or high based on this index. Some foods that are considered healthy also have a high glycemic index, which means they can cause high blood glucose.
Foods with a high GI are broken down quickly and cause a sharp rise in blood glucose levels. As a result, people with diabetes experience a sharp rise in blood sugar. They call this increase “leaps”. In that case, the patient’s condition may worsen, which is why special attention should be paid to the intake of fruits and vegetables with a high glycemic index.
The nutritionist notes that watermelon, potatoes and dried fruits take first place on this list. Other fruits and vegetables with a higher GI include carrots, parsley, beets, sweet corn, bananas, oranges, mangoes, grapes, and pears. When taking these products, patients often feel hungry.
“Foods with a high GI can cause the body to produce insulin, and the patient feels hungry for two to three hours. This can cause a person to want to eat more. People with diabetes should be careful with foods with a high GI because they can help control blood glucose levels in the body. the ability to do is reduced or so drastically reduced that it can be considered as absent.
