From today Valledupar lives the Vallenato en Bandas Festival

The four airs of vallenato and songs like La Gota Fría, Compae Chipuco, Mi poor Valle and others, will sound for two days without accordions, boxes and guacharacas, as they will give way to the sound of trumpets, trombones, clarinets, snare drums, euphoniums and dishes, in the long-awaited Vallenato en Bandas Festival, which is supported by the Government that made it Better.

This event, which focuses on three main categories: bands, tambobandas and adult drums, aims to revive the legacy of the cultural manager Cecilia ‘La Polla’ Monsalvo Riveira, who, to give significance to Vallenata music, during the years 2002, 2003 and 2004, he championed this initiative with great success, which still remains in the memory of the vallenatos.

Fernando Villegas, one of the organizers, maintained that “in addition to rescuing the real tradition of vallenato, which in its beginnings was performed with guitars, then with wind instruments, that is, bands, until implementing the box, guacharaca and the accordion, which was the main objective for which my aunt ‘La Polla’ Monsalvo started this career; “What we want to achieve is to turn this festival into a city event that promotes tourism and with which we can reinforce, or rather transform, the economic dynamics of Valledupar through culture, at different times of the year.”

The Vallenato en Bandas Festival will bring together the most select music in this category. Participants will compete in areas such as tuning, interpretation, staging, presentation | personal and fidelity to the traditional rhythms of vallenato: puya, stroll, merengue and son.

Among the prominent juries who will have the opportunity to choose the best vallenato performers in bands, are Francisco Zumaqué, Héctor Durango, José Salatiel Madrid and other connoisseurs of this genre and classical vallenato, in order to adjust to the rigor of the five criteria already mentioned.

“The support received from the Government of Cesar plays a fundamental role in this, with the materialization of a rating software that will allow us to instantly deliberate the score after each presentation, so that it is a clean and precise rating. This, in addition to all the support, which refers to the awards and transmission so that it reaches the entire region,” he indicated.

The event will take place in Plaza Alfonso López, on December 15 and 16; Recognized bands from various regions of the country will participate, such as Paipa, Chondó, San Pelayo, Villa de Leyva, among others. Although there were no registrations from Cesar bands, this event will be an important folkloric and cultural space.

Regarding the programming, Villegas said that on the first day all the bands registered will perform freely and then there will be a symphonic presentation in the best BraduRy style, titled La Gala Blanca.

The renowned artist Nicolás Tovar will also be there, with a Francipato-style staging. The second day will begin with a Christmas bonus novena and the participation of the Confacesar Symphonic Band, made up of more than 40 children, followed by the broadcast on Telecaribe, to give way to the playoffs.

“First, second and third place will be awarded, and we will have different surprise musical presentations at the end of this great event, prepared for the enjoyment of the entire family, locals and visitors,” Villegas pointed out.
