From now on, all residents of the Netherlands will be able to call the toll-free telephone number 0800-0880 if they experience or notice discrimination. The national news outlet Discriminatie.nl expects much more discrimination due to the election results, among other things, the president tells NU.nl.

Only 3% of people who experience discrimination in the Netherlands report it. While in 2021, 11% of Dutch residents aged fifteen and over felt discriminated against. This is more than one and a half million people. Research shows that these feelings are usually based on actual discrimination.

Last year the provincial anti-discrimination foundation ADV Limburg received 30% more reports than in 2022. Discriminatie.nl president Sjaak van der Linde expects “at least around 20%” more reports nationwide.

With the toll-free 0800 number, Discriminatie.nl wants to lower the reporting threshold for people who experience or see discrimination in their environment. You can also report via the website.

The partnership of anti-discrimination organizations will launch a campaign starting in January. This should also contribute to a greater willingness to report, in order to address the social problem more effectively.
