PARIS (AP) — Passengers traveling to or from Paris by plane on Thursday faced significant delays Thursday, despite a decision by air traffic controllers to cancel their departure following last-minute negotiations.
Flight operations were significantly reduced due to adjustments made to schedules before the strike.
French civil aviation authorities had previously asked airlines to significantly reduce their flights: 75% at Paris-Orly airport, 55% at Charles-de-Gaulle and 65% at Marseille-Provence, with reductions variables at other French aerodromes. As a result, air traffic was significantly limited, which also affected international flights crossing French airspace.
Although the flights that were operated suffered only moderate delays, the significant number of cancellations and schedule readjustments caused difficulties for thousands of travelers. The consequences were especially notable at the main airports, such as Paris-Orly, where delays aggravated the complications of the day.
