Police have arrested Shariful Islam (38), the master of the dollar fraud ring, from Sadullapur upazila of Gaibandha. At that time, five lakh 50 thousand taka in cash, a motorcycle, an easy bike, a battery operated (charger) van and a black bag worth one dollar were recovered from him.
District Police Superintendent Mohammad Kamal Hossain gave this information in a press conference at his office on Saturday (February 10) afternoon.
The Superintendent of Police said that Shariful Islam and his accomplices extorted Tk 650,000 from a businessman named Mohammad Nizamul Haque of Narsingdi district by tempting him to give American dollars. Mohammad Nizamul Haque, the victim of fraud in this incident, filed a case on February 9 as a plaintiff in Sadullapur. After the case, the police conducted a raid and arrested the fraudster Shariful Islam. Six other people are involved in this incident. An operation is underway to arrest them. After the arrest, according to the information given by Shariful Islam, cash of Tk 500,000, a motorcycle, an easy bike, a charger van were recovered. At the same time, 13 biscuits and five dollar bundles were recovered in a special bundle form in a black bag of one dollar.
Citing the incident and the case, Superintendent of Police said, Mohammad Nizamul Haque, son of deceased Alauddin of Narsingdi district. Last two-three months ago, an unknown woman called her personal mobile phone and created grandfather-grandson relationship. When Nizamul Haque came to Rangpur several times for business, the woman called him in the area of Dhaperhat. Later, she was taken to Nizamul Haque’s house by the woman’s cousin Ijibaig from Dhaperhat. After eating and drinking, the woman introduced someone as her father. At one point he was shown a black bag containing approximately 1000 pieces of American dollars and told him that there were eight thousand dollars. At that time, the woman’s father offered to sell seven lakh taka through various tricks.
The Superintendent of Police also said that on February 6, Nizamul Haque and his daughter’s son-in-law came to Rangpur with Tk 650,000 from Narsingdi for business purposes. After that they came to Thapherhat market to meet the woman. They were taken to an unknown house and forcefully snatched Tk 650,000 by showing dollars. Later they were threatened to be killed by the members of this fraudulent gang.
