France and the Netherlands did not hurt each other in Group D

This Friday Date 2 of the group stage of Euro 2024 continued with the duels between Slovakia and Ukraine (Group E) and the matches corresponding to Group D: Poland vs. Austria and Netherlands vs. France.

All eyes were on the duel between the Dutch and French, although what happened between Slovakia and Ukraine leaves the definition of Group E in suspense.

Euro 2024 results for Friday, June 21

Slovakia 1-2 Ukraine

Slovakia and Ukraine hosted a great match at the Düsseldorf Arena, valid for Group E. Ukraine urgently needed the win after the 3-0 defeat against Romania, while Slovakia had just given the surprise by defeating Belgium by one goal to zero.

Slovakia struck first at 17′ with Ivan Schranz scoring. However, at 54′ Mykola Shaparenko equalized the score and, at 80′, Roman Yaremchuk declared the final 2-1 in favor of Ukraine. This makes things interesting in Group E, since if Belgium defeats Romania tomorrow, everyone will have three points.

Poland 1-3 Austria

In the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, Poland and Austria faced off in Group D with the need to add three points, since both teams fell in their debut against the Netherlands (2-1) and France (1-0), respectively.

Austria became strong in Berlin and defeated Poland by three goals to one. The goals were the work of Gernot Trauner at 9′, then the Poles tied through Krzysztof Piątek at 30′.

In the second half, the Austrians scored through Christoph Baumgartner at 66′ and the final goal was scored by Marko Arnautović at 78′ via penalty. With this result, Austria adds its first three points, while the Poles sink into last position.
