Libertarians are today filing a complaint against the Federal President, who persistently refuses to answer questions in accordance with the Obligation to Provide Information Act
Vienna (OTS) – On September 6, 2023, FPÖ cultural spokesman NAbg. Thomas Spalt sent a request to the Federal Presidential Chancellery under the title “How much does the Federal President’s festival summer cost taxpayers?” in accordance with Sections 2 and 3 of the Obligation to Provide Information Act, in which, among other things, he requested a disclosure of all visits to the Mörbisch, Erl, Bregenz and Salzburg festivals Federal President Van der Bellen demanded associated costs. The presidential office persistently refuses to disclose what costs taxpayers incurred as a result of his wife, Doris Schmidauer, who accompanied him. That is why the liberal cultural spokesman will today lodge a complaint against the corresponding response decision. If the Federal President does not disclose these travel costs, the complaint will go to the Federal Administrative Court.
“With this request, we libertarians have already been able to expose Federal President Van der Bellen’s wasteful use of taxpayers’ hard-earned money during his festival visits, which cost around 57,000 euros last year, including the trip of his ‘court’ and four PR companions. The fact that he continues to stubbornly refuse to disclose to citizens the travel expenses for his wife, who accompanied him, is a scandal of a special kind,” said Spalt.
Spalt sees the reasons given by Van der Bellen’s presidential office that the costs incurred by the President’s wife could not be disclosed due, among other things, to the legal obligation of confidentiality and for security reasons as “flimsy excuses”: “Just by disclosing the costs, around half a sum Year after the trips in question, neither a seat nor any other details relevant to safety can be derived. This justification for refusing to provide information is therefore meaningless and is a mere pretext!”
The liberal cultural spokesman therefore urged the Federal President to answer the open questions raised in the complaint regarding his wife’s travel expenses and to end his blockade immediately. “It is the Greens who parade their alleged commitment to freedom of information, transparency and decency like a monstrance. The fact that the Federal President, of all people, as a former Green Party federal spokesman, stonewalls taxpayers in this way and denies them information to which they are entitled is revealing and proves once again that he is not a Federal President of the citizens, but of the system! “, said NAbg. Thomas Spalt.
