The cold-blooded attitude of the ÖVP economics minister is a slap in the face of an entire region
Vienna/Lienz (OTS) – The East Tyrolean household appliance manufacturer Liebherr is planning to put up to 960 employees on short-time work. ÖVP Economics Minister Kocher said today that he sees this plan as questionable from an economic perspective. EU MP Gerald Hauser, who comes from East Tyrol, saw things differently today: “Liebherr is a leading company in East Tyrol. If the company has to close because the cold-blooded neoliberal ÖVP minister doesn’t want to do it, then unemployment in East Tyrol will rise by two percent in one fell swoop! It would be the minister’s job to support the company. Liebherr is already expecting the situation to ease in 2025. Now it’s up to politicians to help!”
Hauser recalled the Corona period: “Short-time work was made possible at the push of a button. Corona aid was also given to companies that were actually already on the verge of collapse before Corona – including companies owned by ÖVP friends. The emergency aid that was possible back then must now work even more easily for Liebherr! East Tyrol, Upper Carinthia and the Pustertal must not be left hanging!”
Kocher’s talk is also unnecessary because he is known to have no job worries. “The ÖVP minister has already prepared his next top job. According to media reports, he is to become governor of the National Bank as part of a job-swapping deal by this government,” said FPÖ MEP Gerald Hauser indignantly.
