Four deaths and more than 200 consultations at the HJRA

The end-of-year celebrations unfortunately left a heavy toll, with four deaths and more than 200 consultations recorded at the Joseph Ravoahangy Andrianavalona Hospital (HJRA).

According to information collected within this health establishment, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day 2024 were marked by the death of four individuals. Two of these tragedies are attributable to road accidents. A woman lost her life in an accident in Ankasina yesterday, while another was hit by a Fiat car in Anosy, along with her son, on New Year’s Day. Although the driver initially took the escape, the latest information indicates that he turned himself in to the police yesterday.

A 60-year-old man also lost his life and was registered with the HJRA. The fourth death was that of an individual who died following an alcoholic coma.

In addition to these tragedies, more than 200 consultations were recorded during these two days, many of which resulted in the hospitalization of patients. Fifty people flocked to the HJRA emergency department, while 15 patients were admitted to the medical intensive care unit. Two suicide attempts and three cases of advanced drunkenness were recorded. Cases of food poisoning have also been recorded this year, involving people potentially falling victim to products such as oils and mayonnaise.

Among the consultations at the emergency department, several victims of civil liability accidents were hospitalized, while others consulted due to traffic accidents. Sixty individuals are registered as victims of road accidents, most involving motorcycle accidents.

This tragic toll highlights the need for increased awareness of road safety and accident prevention, as well as the necessary vigilance during festive celebrations. The HJRA continues to mobilize its resources to deal with emergency cases and calls for individual responsibility to guarantee the safety of all during this period of festivities.
