Fouad L. will appear in court this afternoon in Rotterdam. He is suspected of the fatal shooting in Rotterdam at the end of September. He is also suspected of arson and illegal possession of weapons.
L. is said to have shot dead a 39-year-old woman and her 14-year-old daughter in a house on Heiman Dullaertplein in Rotterdam. He later shot a 43-year-old teacher in a lecture hall at the Erasmus Medical Center. He too is dead.
The murders sent shockwaves through Rotterdam and beyond.

Today’s hearing is a so-called pro forma hearing. The case has not yet been dealt with in substance. However, L.’s pre-trial detention will almost certainly be prolonged. A judge last did so in October, with 90 days. That period has now expired.
Warnings
Fouad L. (32) was a medical student at Erasmus MC. The Public Prosecutor notified the hospital of the shooting of L., who had already been convicted of animal cruelty. According to the Public Prosecutor, he displayed “worrying” and psychotic behaviour.
Reports about L have also been received by the Inspectorate for Health and Youth (IGJ), which they can contact if they have complaints or doubts about the quality (of care) of a doctor.
In October, the judge decided that L. should be examined in the Pieter Baan Centre. Nothing is yet known about the results of that research.
