The cause of death is currently unknown.

– Very sad news… Our friend and drummer of over 20 years has passed away at the age of 61. James was a brilliant person, a wonderful musician and a loving family man. He was our “brother from another mother” and we will truly miss him. Rock’n’roll forever, RIP James, the Scorpions write in a statement on their Instagram profile.

Kottak is best known for his role as the drummer in the German rock band Scorpions. A role he held from 1996 until he was kicked out of the band in 2016, according to TMZ.

He was also the drummer in the German band Kingdom Come.

Among Scorpion’s biggest hits are songs like “Wind Of Change”, “Send Me an Angel” and “Rock You Like A Hurricane”.
