Former referee Alexandre Boucaut does not spare Hans Vanaken: “He has a baby face, but is one of the most terrible players in Belgium”

Club Brugge player Hans Vanaken has been criticized by ex-referee Alexandre Boucaut. In the RTBF program ‘La Tribune’, Boucaut opined that “Vanaken is small-minded”.

Club Brugge finally lost the top match against Antwerp 2-1 on Sunday. After the final whistle, the game boiled over with Vanaken, who went to get a story from referee Jasper Vergoote and called the refs “f*cking pussies”. That still earned him a red card.

Something Boucaut thinks is a justified decision. “That red card was excellent. Excellent. In this way, Vergoote gave a gift to all Belgian referees,” said Boucaut in ‘La Tribune’. “With his baby face he may have the ideal appearance, but he is actually one of the most terrible players on our Belgian football fields. He insults referees. He’s petty. He’s just extremely annoying.”

“It surprised me a bit, because I saw that the psychologist was present in the stadium. But apparently he still hasn’t found a way to calm Vanaken down and teach him to deal with loss,” he continued.

In this way, Boucaut adds a new chapter to his difficult relationship with Club Brugge. In 2013, before the match against Standard, Blauw-zwart already made a statement against the referee who had to direct the match. “Even neutral observers stated that his decisions during recent meetings were particularly fateful for us,” Club Brugge said at the time.
