The former Real Madrid star jumped into the water to save a drowning couple while on holiday in the Maldives.
While Sergio Arribas was vacationing in the Maldives with his girlfriend, he heard cries for help coming from the sea.
In the video of the rescue, Arribas and Anna can be seen hearing a woman shouting, “Help, help.” The couple had been swept away by tidal currents.
Arribas, 22, immediately climbed to the top of a sea slide and jumped into the water. After saving the woman, he turned towards the woman’s partner. Other holidaymakers and hotel staff threw a lifebuoy into the water.
After the rescue, Arribas and Anna took the couple ashore. The video went viral on social media and the midfielder was hailed as a hero.
One fan wrote: “Bravo Sergio! A true hero.” he wrote. Another said: “These should go viral. Great Sergio.” said. Another user said: “Wow. God bless him.” said.
Arribas started his career at Perez Galdos in 2007 and joined Leganes in 2010. He was transferred to Real Madrid in 2012 and rose through the youth teams. He made his debut in the A team and the UEFA Champions League in 2020.
Arribas, who played in 14 matches for Real Madrid, joined Almeria last year but could not prevent the club from being relegated from LaLiga.
