The law “On political parties” has been amended to prohibit the creation and activities of political parties of foreign states and their divisions on the territory of Uzbekistan, Liter.kz reports.
The amendment was approved by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The document was published on portal National database of legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
By the way, the innovations were not announced in advance and were not discussed publicly.
According to the preamble to the law, large-scale measures are being taken in Uzbekistan to improve the activities of political parties. The new amendments introduce the necessary regulations to prevent the influence of foreign parties on the country’s political life.
“Currently, five political parties are officially registered in Uzbekistan: the Liberal Democratic Party, the Milliy Tiklanish Democratic Party, the Adolat Social Democratic Party, the People’s Democratic Party, and the Ecological Party. The new changes to the legislation are aimed at strengthening the national political system and ensuring the country’s independence from external political influence,” the document’s rationale states.
Representatives of political parties have not yet commented on the changes made.
