Likewise, the Foreign Ministry asked the Haitian government to consider the possibility of transferring Colombian citizens to a different prison.
“The Government was asked to evaluate the possibility of transferring to another prison that offer greater security to the 17 Colombian nationals deprived of liberty in Haiti since July 2021,” the report mentions.
It is worth mentioning that these 17 men are currently under detention in Haiti’s main prison, accused of the murder of President Jovenel Moise in 2021.
Finally, in the statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, the commitment to the Haitian people was expressed:
“The Government of Colombia reiterates its solidarity with the Haitian people and the commitment to work bilaterally and regional to find structural and lasting solutions to the current crisis in Haiti. These solutions must involve and engage all sectors of Haitian society, with the aim of providing a horizon of human development and prosperity to the Haitian people,” he concluded.
