(ANKARA) – The employment contracts of 187 workers working in the mine where the landslide in the İliç district of Erzincan resulted in the deaths of 9 workers were terminated. In the message published on the Anagold Mining website, which terminated the workers’ employment contracts, information was provided regarding the support they gave to Erzincanspor. The message included the following statements: “We have worked meticulously to fulfill our commitments to Erzincanspor. Our total sponsorship agreement for 2024 is $700,000 and we would like to state that the total payment of $495,000 has been completed despite the incident we experienced.”
Workers working at the mine in Erzincan İliç, where 9 miners died in a landslide in February, learned that they were laid off via a message sent to them today. Anagold Mining announced in a statement that the employment contracts of 187 workers were terminated:
“Despite the difficult economic situation we have been in for 6 months following the incident and our efforts not to victimize any of our employees, unfortunately, considering the long-term impact and scope of these studies, which will be spread over a long period of time, it has become necessary to make some operational changes. In this regard, we would like to state with regret that we have had to part ways with 187 of our colleagues.”
Anagold Madencilik stated on its website, “After the ‘unfortunate incident’ on February 13, they took savings measures and worked diligently to fulfill our commitments to Erzincanspor even during this difficult process, that is, despite the mine being closed. Our total sponsorship agreement for 2024 is $700,000 and we would like to state that a total payment of $495,000 has been completed despite the incident we experienced.”
What had happened?
Nine workers were trapped underground in the landslide that occurred on February 13 at the Çöpler Mine, where Anagold Mining produces gold. The bodies of the workers trapped underground were found months later.
