Flooding is occurring in several locations in North Holland due to high water levels in the Markermeer and IJsselmeer in combination with strong winds. Several cellars were flooded.
In Hoorn, among other places, residents were woken up early by the police due to the risk of flooding. Due to high water, water in Visserseiland and the De Grashaven marina was already overflowing the quayside and threatening to flood the garages. Residents removed their cars and other valuables from garages.
As a precaution, the water company and fire department placed sandbags on the front doors and garage boxes to stop the water. According to the safety region, the water is about a foot higher than normal and the water level continues to rise. High tide could last until Tuesday.

The inhabitants of Volendam were also woken up by the police due to high water. The water on the dock is now knee-high. Here too the firefighters have placed sandbags and are pumping away the water. Several parking lots were also freed up.
The water in the IJsselmeer is also still high. The Hollands Noorderkwartier water utility still refers to “alert phase 1”. Unlike the Markermeer, in recent days it was possible well drained by the IJsselmeer, which caused a slight drop in the water level.
