Floods hit Chetumal and Cancún; more rains are forecast for entities

The displacement of a low pressure area associated with tropical wave number six caused heavy rains and flooding in Quintana Roo yesterday.

The State Coordination of Civil Protection predicted heavy to torrential rains, which began early Thursday morning and continued throughout yesterday morning.

The city of Cancun was left with flooded streets and fallen trees in the Casas del Mar subdivision and in Supermanzana 51, Hormiga Street.

For this reason, authorities urged citizens not to leave their homes unless necessary, in order to prevent vehicles from getting stranded in puddles.

In a preliminary report, it was revealed that Yaxchilán, Cobá, Uxmal, Chichén Itzá, Bonampak, Nichupté and Leona Vicario avenues recorded severe flooding of at least 30 centimeters in some sections.

Heavy rains and flooding were also recorded in Chetumal, so the authorities implemented Operation Storm, in which the traffic department, police, Civil Protection and Fire Department participated.

Due to the low pressure zone associated with tropical wave number 6, with cyclonic potential located over the Campeche Sound, torrential rains were forecast in Campeche, Chiapas, Quintana Roo and Yucatan.

In addition to intense rainfall in Oaxaca, Tabasco and Veracruz; wind with gusts of 60 to 80 km/h, waves of 2 to 4 meters high and conditions for the formation of waterspouts on the coasts of the Yucatan Peninsula. The low pressure area with a 50% probability of developing a tropical cyclone was located yesterday on land over Calakmul, Campeche, and was moving west-northwest towards the coast of Veracruz.

Meanwhile, the entry of moisture from both coasts and a low pressure channel in the interior of the country will cause heavy rains in Colima, Jalisco and Nayarit; very heavy rains in Aguascalientes, Chihuahua, Durango, State of Mexico, Guerrero, Guanajuato, Michoacán, Puebla, Sinaloa, Sonora and Zacatecas.

Forts in Mexico City, Hidalgo, Morelos, Nuevo León, San Querétaro, Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas and Tlaxcala; showers in Coahuila and isolated rains in Baja California and Baja California Sur.

Heavy rains were recorded in Yucatan, leaving puddles and some trees falling.

DN-III PLAN APPLIED IN 5 MUNICIPALITIES OF EDOMEX

Sedena implemented the DN-III Plan in the municipalities of Hueypoxtla, Cuautitlán Izcalli, Cuautitlán, Chalco and Chimalhuacán to support the population affected by recent rains, said Governor Delfina Gómez.

During a tour of the east of the State of Mexico, the state leader supervised the actions being carried out to serve the population affected by the rains and instructed the establishment of a community kitchen and a temporary shelter to support the inhabitants of Chalco.

Accompanied by the state Secretary of Security, Cristóbal Castañeda, she stressed that the government of the State of Mexico maintains close coordination with the three levels of government, which is why the State Welfare Secretariat will begin the census of damages in conjunction with the Army.

There are nearly 900 members of the three levels of government deployed in the territory to provide care to those affected.

In the case of Chalco, 50 soldiers and 150 state police were deployed to attend to the contingency in San Martín, Pueblo Nuevo and Los Héroes I, where they implemented cleaning tasks in the area and supported the affected Mexican families.

Meanwhile, work was carried out to clean and disinfect cisterns in Colina el Molino and Barrio San Pedro, in Chimalhuacán.
