The ICRIAP of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported on measures to counter the dissemination of personal data, Liter.kz reports.
The department said that according to the global cybersecurity index, Kazakhstan ranks 31st out of 195 countries, significantly exceeding the expected result in the cybersecurity concept from 2017 to 2022, rising nine points higher.
The ICRIAP recalled that following a data leak that was discovered on February 16, 2024 on the GitHub resource, unscheduled inspections were carried out against Kazakhtelecom, UAPF and Air Astana. Based on the results of the inspections, Kazakhtelecom and Air Astana were held administratively liable for violating information security requirements, fined a total of 369,200 tenge and issued orders for a period of one year.
Regarding the leak of more than two million personal data of clients of MFO zaimer.kz, the Ministry of Digital Development reported that clients of NIT JSC were sent notifications via EgovMobile to prevent further unauthorized access to personal data.
The notification system was launched in pilot mode, since the competence to notify citizens of personal data leakage was established on December 11, 2023 as part of the law on information security, informatization and digital assets, which comes into force on July 1, 2024, the department reported.
To date, the ministry has received more than five thousand requests regarding this case.
The ministry also said that an unscheduled inspection of “MFO Robokash.kz” for compliance with the requirements of the legislation of Kazakhstan on personal data and their protection revealed violations. The LLP was fined 500 MCI, or 1.8 million tenge.
To consider the issue of compensation for moral damage, citizens have the right to go to court in accordance with the Civil Code, – reminded at the ministry.
In addition, the department reported that in addition to personal data, the database contains bank secrecy, and therefore citizens have the right to also contact the ARRFR.
