While fishing accumulated three months of growth, domestic consumption of cement, mining and hydrocarbons ended June with negative figures.
During June, the production of the fishing sector increased by 56.77% compared to the same month of the previous year. This marked three consecutive months of growth. However, the growth rate was slower compared to April and May. April registered an increase of 144.07% and May 363.5%. These data were reported by the Economic Activity Forecast of the HERE.
At the end of the first half of the year, the cumulative increase was 45.02%. This growth in June was due to the greater extraction of species for indirect human consumption. Among them is anchovy for fishmeal and fish oil, which increased by 74.85%, going from 41,535 tons in June 2022 to 241,565 tons in June 2023. The main landing ports were ChimboteMalabrigo, Coishco, Callao and Tambo de Mora.

In addition, the capture of species for direct human consumption increased by 17.02%. The canning industry increased by 51.3%, and freezing by 23.1%. Consumption in fresh state increased by 10.1%. In contrast, continental fishing decreased by 21.02% due to less extraction for fresh and frozen consumption.
Decline in mining and domestic cement consumption
The mining and hydrocarbons sector fell by 7.47% due to lower activity in metal mining, which fell by 8.08% due to the decrease in the production of zinc (-20.9%), iron (-14.7%), copper (-12.0%), gold (-2.5%) and lead (-0.3%). However, molybdenum production increased by 24.6%, silver by 6.1% and tin by 5.8%.
In the hydrocarbon sector, there was a contraction of 3.51% due to lower production of natural gas (-10.2%) and natural gas liquids (-1.2%), although oil production rose by 1.5%.
On the other hand, domestic consumption of cement, a key indicator of the construction sector, decreased by 5.48% in June, due to the lower dynamism of private and self-construction projects.
