Fisherman catches giant flounder worth 233 million VND

A fisherman caught a ‘giant sea monster’, a flounder weighing 101.6kg and measuring 2.13m long.

Accordingly, in 2015, young man Erik Axner (Sweden) unexpectedly caught a “giant” flounder during a fishing trip with friends in the waters off the Lofoten Islands of Norway.

It took Mr. Axner more than an hour to “conquer” the fish.

Because the flounder was so large, Axner couldn’t get it out of the water to take a photo. So he tied the fish’s tail to the side of the boat with a rope and jumped into the freezing water to capture the memorable moment.

“I wanted to take some pictures with the fish and the only way to do that without harming it was to jump in the water. Being in the water with such a huge fish was an experience of a lifetime,” Axner said.

After taking a photo with the flounder to show off his achievement, Mr. Axner decided to release it back into the sea.

Before releasing the “monster” flounder, Mr. Axner did not forget to weigh and measure its size. The fish was determined to be 2.13m long and weighed 101.6kg, meaning it could provide about 250 pieces of fillet meat.

Since seafood restaurants typically charge around $38 for a main course made from halibut, the fish that Axner caught could be worth more than $9,200.

In the same year, a British fisherman also caught a flounder weighing up to 200kg.

Fisherman Mal Rowley shared a photo of himself with a “monster sea monster” – a giant 200kg flounder that he caught off the coast of Grimsby, England.

Rowley said everyone was amazed when he showed them the photo of himself with the giant flounder, which measured 8ft long. “My customers have never seen a flounder this big,” said Mal Rowley.

Rowley owns a fish shop in Manchester that attracts a large number of customers because they like to buy fish caught in the Grimsby area.

The previous record for the biggest British halibut was 68kg, caught off the coast of Shetland.

Meanwhile, one of the world’s largest flounders was caught by German fisherman Marco Liebenow off the coast of Norway. It weighed 234 kg and was 2.7 m long.
