First dance festival in San Joaquín

The Municipal Corporation of Culture of San Joaquín will carry out the first version of the Dance Festival in San Joaquín, a project financed by the National Scenic Arts Fund, in the line of regional festivals and meetings.
The event will begin this Friday, April 25 with master classes and presentation on the ground, its official inauguration will be on Tuesday, April 29 at the Municipal Theater of San Joaquín in the framework of the International Dance Day, where tribute will be paid to the renowned national dancer Rosa Celis, former dancer of the Chilean national ballet and popular ballet, together with the presentation of the company Dance on Cross with his work “Roots of the body” Pavez
The Festival will also have the participation of six other companies of recognized national career: Company Dance Espiral, Company Movement, Company Route of Memory, the Chinchinthy -Piopié Carnival School, La! Company (with function in mirror) and company Calaucalis, the latter from Concepción. In the words of Paola Aste, director of Calaucalis:
“As a choreographer of the Biobío Region, bringing to the Metropolitan Region a heritage work where the memory of the people of Lota is undoubtedly a great opportunity. Participating in this first dance festival in San Joaquín with high -level companies and of great experience makes us feel recognized and accompanied in our work of doing and spreading the art of dance.”
Relowing the work of local dance groups
In addition to the dance presentations, the festival contemplates the realization of choreographic residences during the months of April and May, in charge of members of the invited companies. These activities will be aimed at local dance groups belonging to four communes of the Ciudad Sur Network, an association that groups municipalities in the southern sector of the Metropolitan Region. The residences aim to promote artistic collaboration and strengthen the development of dance in the territories.
From San Joaquín, the Jamuy Mapu group will be part of the festival with a choreographic residence by Valentina Pavez, director of the Danza in Cruz company. Iris Fernández, representative of the group, highlights the importance of this instance:
“Participating in this first dance festival gives us the opportunity to work with a teacher like Valentina, who comes to strengthen our focus on mestizo folk dance, providing new methodologies and tools that raise our artistic and cultural work. We are very motivated and enjoying each essay.”
Among the other resident choreographers are Rocío Espejo, Rosita Jiménez, Natasha Torres, Vilma Jiménez, Paola Aste and Gonzalo Beltrán. The latter emphasizes: “The importance of this choreographic residence not only arouses inspiration and motivation in the participants, but also makes them feel valued and an active part of the creative process. In addition, the residence becomes a meeting space, where the community is encouraged, the exchange of opinions and emotional expression.” Beltrán develops his residence with the Club Amigo Group El Pinar de San Joaquín.
The first dance festival in San Joaquín seeks to bring this discipline closer to the local public and generate new opportunities for meeting and training for dancers and emerging groups. Claudia de la Carrera, Executive Secretary of the Municipal Corporation of Culture of San Joaquín, highlights the importance of this initiative for the cultural development of the commune: “For our cultural center, to carry out this first dance festival in San Joaquín means to specify a dream and be part of a milestone that transcends our commune. We aspire to consolidate ourselves as a cultural pole of dance in the metropolitan region. trajectory that we have built around art and culture. “
