According to the chief selector, first-class matches should be played more and more regularly. If you don’t play more long range matches, there is no way to improve the mood, patience, technique, temperament of Test playing.
But there is a major ‘clash’ or conflict between the domestic cricket calendar and the international cricket calendar of Bangladesh. In most cases, when the National League or BCL starts in Bangladesh, the national team is busy playing some series or tournament.
This has been going on for years. That’s why most of the current national team cricketers don’t play a first-class match for a few years. Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu has carefully observed the matter.
He feels that playing first-class matches at all or nominally on the country’s soil is having a negative impact on Tests. So Lipu is desperate to arrange for the cricketers to play long matches in the country.
According to the chief selector, as many first-class matches as possible should be played. Along with this, he also feels the strong urge to increase the quality of first class cricket and increase the ancillary facilities.
Lipu said, ‘Cricketers can prepare themselves properly if they play more first-class matches. Now is the time to take initiatives so that cricketers can play in the National League and BCL in a quality and competitive environment.’
The country’s first-class cricket schedule often clashes with the national team. So a new thought came to Lipu’s mind. His proposal is not to host domestic first-class cricket during national team series or tours.
Lipu said, ‘Initiatives should be taken so that our national team cricketers can play more first-class matches in the country free from national team activities. And it must be done at any cost. For this, the combined efforts of all including cricket ops, tournament committee are required.
Lipu added, ‘If necessary, first-class cricket can be organized twice or thrice when the national team does not have any activities, rather than at a specific time of the year. Then everyone will get a chance to play. To do this, cricket ops, national team management and tournament committee should sit together. I will try to take that initiative sitting with everyone in the future.’
