Fires. Communist Party gathered tons of aid for victims

Water, food, medicine, cleaning supplies and tools were concentrated in collection centers around which communist militants from all over the country worked. The support was sent to families in towns and areas affected by the forest fires. Another of the initiatives led by militants close to the Communist Party is the medical brigade of graduates of the Latin American School of Medicine of Cuba (ELAM), who deployed health professionals mainly in Achupallas, significantly covering the care of APS in the area.

More than 15 tons, including water, food, medicine, cleaning supplies and tools for debris removal, were sent to the Valparaíso Region by the structures of the Communist Party (PC) of Santiago, and nearly 10 more tons have been mobilized through regional and communist community groups throughout the country, which concentrated the contributions in the main collection centers installed by the PC in several cities

Faced with the tragedy caused by forest fires in the towns of Viña del Mar, Quilpué and Villa Alemana, which cost the lives of more than a hundred compatriots and thousands of homes completely destroyed by the flames, the militancy of the Communist Party and the Communist Youth attended en masse to the call for solidarity made by the National Directorate of the community to be deployed throughout the country, placing the headquarters of the Central Committee as the main collection place.

It was possible to gather more than 13 tons that were delivered last Wednesday by a delegation led by the general secretary of the PC, Bárbara Figueroa, the members of the Political Commission Javier Albornoz, Cinthy Miskulini and Juan Andrés Lagos, the general secretary of the Communist Youth , Bárbara Navarrete, and members of the National Organization Commission.

The delivery of the support was made in Achupallas of the Communal Union of Neighborhood Councils of Viña del Mar, and at the ACHIPEN headquarters in Quilpué, both deliveries had the participation and coordination of the respective communal communities of the PC and the regional “Galo González ” (Quinta Costa) and “Marta Ugarte” (Quinta Cordillera).

“As a central leadership we are very proud of the deployment that our party has developed from Arica to Punta Arenas, generating solidarity initiatives and looking for mechanisms to deliver this solidarity,” said Bárbara Figueroa.

He said that “together with our Communist Youth we were on the ground to identify how we can help more and better in a process that is going to be long, which has an emergency stage for which we have arranged the management of the supplies, but we know that something that we are also going to have to manage over the next few months, especially the common pot spaces that will be the space that allows food to reach families” in the Valparaíso Region.

The general secretary of the PC stated: “To convey to our colleagues the pride in all the deployment and the rapid response that has been had to help the Region and other sectors affected by fires such as in the O’Higginas Region. Also highlight the role that both Valparaíso regions have played on the ground, as well as our fellow Presidential Delegate, Sofía González, who from minute zero has coordinated all possible efforts so that the government arrives in a timely manner with aid and priorities. ”.

Added to the aid delivered last Wednesday was a significant load from the Puente Alto Commune, which was managed by the communist councilors in coordination with several Neighborhood Councils and social organizations.

Other important efforts in the Metropolitan Region have focused on the volunteer efforts that the Communist Youth have raised these days with the University Federations and with the INJUV (National Youth Institute), and that have already mobilized dozens of young people to the damaged area. . In addition, they have had contributions of helmets, shovels and other supplies delivered by regional regions of the RM such as the South and D14.

César Torres, political secretary of the Quilpué community, stated regarding the aid delivered that “what was received represents the class solidarity of our party with all the workers of Quilpué and the affected areas, who are going through difficult moments of deprivation and uncertainty. These acts of solidarity, in practice, enhance communist humanism and the brotherhood between the popular movement and the Party.”

At the national level, the efforts that the PC has concentrated have been at the disposal of the main collection centers of the municipalities and the Presidential Delegations, as has been the case of Atacama and Maule Sur, as well as solidarity initiatives that have translated in direct monetary contributions to go to the aid of families and militants who were affected, such as those gathered by the regional of Ñuble, Atacama and “Sola Sierra” of Santiago. Among the initiatives to highlight is that of the councilor of La Araucanía, Raúl Landini, who collected 3 and a half tons of food that will be delivered in the coming days to the soup kitchens set up in the Argentine town of Quilpué and in the Olivar de Viña del Mar.

Another of the initiatives led by militants close to the Communist Party is the medical brigade of graduates of the Latin American School of Medicine of Cuba (ELAM), who deployed health professionals mainly in Achupallas, significantly covering the care of APS in the area. The installation of the brigade had the contribution of various spaces in medical supplies, such as that carried out by the Public Administration Sector of the PC, which managed to send a considerable amount of medicines for the operation of the brigade.

From the community it was indicated that the solidarity expressed by the militancy marked the work of the PC in these days, concentrating efforts during and addressing the complexity of the catastrophe, and how long it will take in time to return to normality for the affected families.

Juan Andrés Lagos pointed out that “the stages that follow will be long, perhaps weeks and months, so it is very necessary to articulate solidarity in a very specialized and concrete way on the issues that have to do with the reconstruction phase, this requires a lot of systematic and orderly support. The Communist Party is helping to make a very concrete proposal from the point of view of the best possible reconstruction for the affected families, which is direct to the families without delays and which does not become a business.
