The fire at an oil depot in the Rostov region, Russiaremains uncontrolled for the third consecutive day, following a drone attack carried out by Ukraine. The blaze broke out in the city of Proletarsk, where the flames have consumed an area of 10,000 square meters. So far, 500 firefighters are deployed at the scene to control the fire, and 41 of them have been hospitalized due to injuries sustained during the extinguishing work, according to Russian news agencies.

Ukraine’s Army General Staff claimed responsibility for the attack, describing it as a move to weaken Russia’s military and economic potential. The attacked depot, which was supplying fuel to Russian forces, has been one of the targets of a wider offensive that has also seen Ukrainian advances towards the Kursk region.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the attack had allowed his forces to capture a significant number of Russian prisoners, who could be used in prisoner exchanges and as part of a broader strategy to protect Ukraine from future attacks. Zelenskyy stressed that this operation had resulted in the capture of 1,250 square kilometers and 92 settlements in the Kursk region, which has been the scene of the largest Ukrainian attack on Russia since World War II.

However, while Ukraine celebrates these advances, it faces a difficult situation in the Donbass. Russian forces have stepped up their offensive on the town of Pokrovsk, one of Ukraine’s main defensive strongholds in the Donetsk region. Capturing this town would severely compromise Ukraine’s defensive capabilities and supply routes, bringing Russia closer to its goal of fully controlling the Donbass industrial region.
