The work carried out by the Directorate of Municipal Works (DOM) in the 262 districts of El Salvador has proven to be fundamental during the current emergency due to increased rainfall and storm, now converted into tropical storm Alberto.

The more than 8,500 works, which include streets, drainage, curbs, gutters, speed bumps and other protection works, have contributed significantly to mitigating the effects of the rains, allowing the currents to flow without obstacles and causing less damage compared to the past.

The implementation of high quality standards in the construction of these infrastructures has been key to avoiding further damage. These results show that the Government’s policies and actions are going in the “right direction” aimed at meeting the needs of Salvadorans.

In the last few hours, field staff and young people from the DOM Socialization Department verified, among others, the obstruction with plastic waste and trees on the San Ramón bridge, in Tecoluca, San Vicente, where the debris was later removed.

Another removal of debris and soil compaction, with heavy machinery, was carried out in the Santa Elena canton, the main street that leads from the San Pedro Puxtla district to Apaneca, in the municipality of Ahuachapán.

Meanwhile, in the Quebrada Onda hamlet in the San Sebastián canton, in Santa Rosa de Lima, La Unión, a passage work was enabled that was blocked with trees, stones and mud.

Always in La Unión, but in the El Mango hamlet, Piedras Blancas canton, Pasaquina district, the crews used a backhoe to remove debris from the main road that prevented vehicular and pedestrian passage.

In compliance with President Nayib Bukele’s mandate, which is to safeguard the lives of Salvadorans, DOM crews have been deployed since last weekend in the 262 districts of the country to attend to any type of emergency.
