I WAIT. Average Rob hands De Bruyne his first Golden Boot
Last year he received a smaller statue from City colleagues Nathan Aké and John Stones, now Kevin De Bruyne can put a genuine Golden Boot in his personal trophy cabinet. The Best Belgian Abroad category has been enriched by the organization with a new appropriate trophy.
YouTube sensation Average Rob flew to Manchester last week to present the award – De Bruyne is in training camp with City in Abu Dhabi. De Bruyne became winner for the fourth time in the secondary category which rewards the best Belgian abroad. ‘KDB’ had already won in 2015 and 2016. After Eden Hazard’s hat-trick (2017-2019) and Romelu Lukaku’s double (2020-2021), it is now De Bruyne’s turn for the second time in a row.
De Bruyne: “Of the four awards, this is by far the best. I’m proud to have won this. I finally have the Golden Shoe. Even if it’s for those abroad, it’s my first.”
Not that De Bruyne had no competition this year. The Red Devil was sidelined for six months following hamstring surgery, albeit after helping Manchester City to a historic treble. Title, cup and Champions League, as the undisputed patron of the English midfield.
The emergence of Jérémy Doku – especially after his move to Manchester City – and the goals of Loïs Openda, who scored consistently both before the summer at Lens and after his move to Leipzig, were not enough to dethrone De Bruyne.
With the European Championship in sight and a second half of the season in which City will once again compete for all the prizes, he certainly seems to want to stay there for a while.
I WAIT. Some highlights from Kevin De Bruyne’s successful year
