After its passage through Argentine theaters, it arrives in Chile “It’s not 30 pesos: Chile, genealogy of an insurrection” a documentary about the creation of the Manuel Rodríguez Patriotic Front (FPMR) narrated by its own protagonists.

Directed by the Argentine filmmaker Fernando Krichmar Porto and produced by Alejandra Guzzo (Insurgent Cinema) and Javier Diaz (Coruya Cinema), The film details the founding of the FPMR, the guerrilla group created by the Chilean Communist Party in 1983, after 10 years of the civil-military dictatorship promoted by Augusto Pinochet.

Along with the use of television recordings, letters and various photographs, Most of the stories exhibited are represented by a group of Chilean actors, who talk with the members of the Front to declassify the reasons that led them to form the organization.

According to its director Fernando Krichmar Porto, The documentary “began as an intervention film with the aim of making an injustice visible: many of those who had faced the fierce Pinochet dictatorship with weapons in hand are currently still judicially persecuted, imprisoned or in exile.”

“The filming was carried out with great success, achieving many of its objectives, but reality prevailed over the film: After finishing filming and faced with an increase in the price of the subway ticket, thousands of young students jumped the turnstiles with a clear cry: it’s not thirty pesos, it’s thirty years,” explains the Argentine filmmaker, referring to the connection between the 2019 demonstrations and the theme of the documentary.

“The social outbreak redefined and absolutely surpassed the original idea of the film, showing that The history of peoples cannot be swept under the carpet.” states.

“It’s not 30 pesos: Chile, genealogy of an insurrection” was highlighted by Argentine critics for its “interesting approach” (Catalina Dlugi, Catalina’s portal) where “The combination of materials and registers gives dynamism to the story and contributes to its visual appeal” (Maria Iribarren, With Open Eyes), resulting in “an essay on the forms that memory representation takes” (José Luis Visconti, Making Criticism).

After its premiere in Argentina, The documentary will be screened on August 29, 30 and 31 at the Camilo Henríquez Theater (Amunátegui #31, Santiago).
