Angolan singer and songwriter, Filipe Mukenga, lamented, in an interview with Carga magazine, the lack of appreciation, recognition and financial support for Angolan artists by the State.

Despite having a repertoire of musical works filled with recognized melodic and harmonic brilliance, Filipe Mukenga was never awarded the National Culture and Arts Prize, which is the main award given by the Angolan state to artists.

One of the greatest symbols of Angolan music, spoke in the same interview about the little value given to Angolan artists, who greatly elevate the country’s name in the world, and the lack of quality in many songs currently produced.

In a clear sign of discontent and outburst, making reference to the National Culture and Arts Award, Filipe Mukenga said: “One of these days I will die and then I will, for sure, be awarded posthumously, with the aforementioned prize”.

With a 57-year career, Filipe Mukenga has composed works that travel around the world in the voices of Djavan, Flora Purim, Maurício Mattar and several other artists.
