FIFA gives players the right to stop play if they are subjected to racism

The International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) has given players the right to stop the game if they are subjected to racism.

WILL BE IMPLEMENTED IN THE WOMEN’S WORLD CUP UNDER 20

According to the statement, at the FIFA congress held in May, players were given the authority to take a stand against racist harassment as part of the anti-discrimination policy. In this context, the arm gesture against racism will be implemented for the first time at the U20 Women’s World Cup to be held in Colombia.

Following the “No to racism” movement, a three-step procedure will be implemented.

FOOTBALL PLAYER EXPOSED TO RACISM WILL CROSS HIS HANDS AT HIS WRISTS

Footballers exposed to racism, hands up from the wrists crosswise to signal to the referee that they are being subjected to racist abuse. The referees will then start a three-step procedure. In the first step, the referees will stop the match. If the abuse continues, the players and technical staff will be taken to the dressing room. If the incident does not stop, the match will be postponed.

Commenting on the new procedure, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said: “Fighting racism is something we must all do together. Implementing the ‘No to racism’ gesture at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia is an important first step to empower players around the world. We now look forward to implementing the three-step procedure with maximum impact around the world.”
