The president of the Lithuanian Football Federation, Edgaras Stankevičius, said that the Lithuanian women’s national team will not play the Belarusian national team in the 2025 European Championship qualifying tournament.

Publika.az reports that, according to Stankevicius, the federation is ready for the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to give two technical defeats to the national team:

“If we talk about the sports component, the draw is quite favorable. All three teams can be beaten, but we are not planning to play Belarus. I really hope that the sanctions will be limited to a 0:3 technical defeat and our girls will continue to participate in the selection. They can fight for the second place in the group and qualification for the next round. The most important thing for me is that we don’t get disqualified. This would be the most painful option.”

The captain of the Lithuanian women’s national team and the general director of the local football association, Milda Lujinite, confirmed that the national team will refuse to play Belarus. “Even without these two matches, we can take the second place in the group,” said Luzhinite.

It should be noted that the draw ceremony of the 2025 European Women’s Championship qualifying tournament was held this week. Belarus and Lithuania are in the first group of C League together with Cyprus and Georgia.
