In a recent exchange of statements, Felipe Harman, director of the National Land Agency (ANT), has responded strongly to the accusations of the senator of the Democratic Center, Miguel Uribe Turbaywho questioned the management of the entity under the current government of Gustavo Petro. Harman has been clear in his position: the arguments about “corruption” for the increase in personnel at the ANT are, in his opinion, “basic and mediocre.”
Felipe Harman has invited Miguel Uribe Turbay to participate in a public debate on land policy and the results achieved by the ANT.
The director has stressed the importance of discussing not only the increase in staff, but also fundamental issues such as the legalization of vacant lands and the dispossession of land from peasants. According to Harman, these are the crucial issues that need to be addressed to understand the true impact of land policy.
On the other hand, through an official statement, the ANT defended its work with concrete data. The Agency has gone from having 8 to 32 territorial offices, with a presence in all the departments of Colombia. This expansion responds to the need to bring services closer to peasants and ethnic and Afro-descendant communities, who have requested a greater presence of the land authority in their regions.
The document mentions that during the current administration, the ANT has formalized more than 1,138,000 hectares, a figure that contrasts markedly with the numbers reached during the government of Iván Duque. In comparison, The Duque administration formalized half of this figure in the same period. This significant increase in land formalization is presented by the ANT as a notable achievement of the current administration.
