FBCCI has called for implementation of 100% automation, proper implementation of customs laws and necessary amendments to simplify customs management along with reducing the cost of doing business in the country.
FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam made this call to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) at a workshop on the implementation of the Customs Act 2023 at the Motijheel office of FBCCI on Sunday (26 May 26) afternoon.
The workshop was jointly organized by FBCCI and NBR.
In his welcome address, FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam said that the Customs Act is very important to ease the business environment in the country and reduce the cost of doing business. We believe the new customs law will play a major role in speeding up trade.
The FBCCI president said that the business is being disrupted due to various complications related to HS code, declaration and customs of the product. In this situation, he emphasized on the implementation of 100% automation in customs management.
Mahbubul Alam also said, no matter how beautiful the law is, if it is not properly implemented, it will not be beneficial. NBR is urged to consider the proposals of the private sector raised in the workshop before implementing the Customs Act. I believe that if the law is implemented with necessary amendments, business, trade and economy will be accelerated.
Speaking as the chief guest at the workshop, NBR Chairman Abu Hena Rahmatul Munim said that the necessary amendments will be made by taking into consideration the logical proposals of the business community in the implementation of the Customs Act.
He said, however, in many cases small fines or fines are not effective to maintain order in business. That is why in some cases large fines or levies are levied. But it must be logical.
NBR Chairman advised businessmen and entrepreneurs to keep their ideas clear and aware about the Customs Act 2023. He called on the NBR to give clear complaints in written form instead of making complaints in the name of customs officials.
Member of NBR (Customs Policy and ICT) Md. Masood Sadiq said that the new customs law will be more trade friendly than before. He called for the full support of the traders to the law.
Senior Vice President of FBCCI also attended the workshop. Amin Helali, Vice-President Shami Kaiser, FBCCI Director, former directors and NBR officials and business leaders.
