The Norwegian team was crowned the winner, finishing in one hour, 17 minutes and 34.2 minutes. The German team was two minutes and 1.9 seconds behind the winners, while Italian biathletes rounded out the top three places.
The competition took place in very difficult weather conditions. Latvia was also represented in the 21-team competition: Aleksandrs Patrijuks, Edgars Mise, Andrejs Rastorgujevs and Renārs Birkentāls were starters in the team, but the team was stopped after Patrijuks and Mise’s failures at the shooting line.
The first to take to the track was Patrijuks, who used two extra cartridges in the first firing line and returned to the track in 12th position. The standing shot for Alexander was unsuccessful: four rounds of penalties and Patryuk remained in the last, 21st position.
The Mass took on the role of last witness. The first line of fire was also unsuccessful for Edgar: he earned two penalty turns. Even in the standing shot they failed to get out of the penalty circle and the relay ended for the Latvian team without completing the second phase.
So far this season, the relay has taken place twice. In Ostersund the Latvian quartet was overtaken by a lap and finished the race last, in 20th place, while in Hochfilcene they took 14th place.
