Fat banks cause gatherings in towing companies: “Use common sense”

If you’ve ended up with your car in the mud these days, you’re not alone. Due to the incessant downpours, many roadsides turned into a mud bath and many motorists were left stranded with their cars. But it is useless to call the ANWB roadside assistance service, because in this case it is not at your disposal. And so in many towing companies the phone is ringing off the hook.

“Sometimes we also get a call from the ANWB asking if we can help.”

These are intense days also at Sleeping Service Total in Breda. “Our six tow trucks are traveling at full speed,” says Fahd Berehou of Sleeping Service Totaal in Breda. “We go back and forth during the day, but we also have to get out of bed at night. Sometimes the ANWB even calls us to ask if we can help. Because they don’t come for something you could have avoided on your own.

“I called roadside assistance, but they don’t get cars out of the mud,” he says. “My insurance company told me to call a towing company, but this could cost me a lot of money. Fortunately, in the end I was helped by a colleague.”

“Look around before you crash into something to see if it’s possible.”

Monique Heiltjes believes that motorists should think a little more carefully when travelling. “It has been raining constantly since October. With a sober Dutch mind you might imagine that it’s wet along the edges of the road and you’ll sink,” says Heiltjes. “So look around before you crash into something to see if that’s possible.”
