Vinzenz Group Congress Days Surgery 2024
Vienna (OTS) – The Vinzenz Group Surgery Congress Days are taking place for the first time. Under the direction of Prim. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Johannes Zacherl, Department of Surgery at St. Josef Hospital Vienna, and Priv.-Doz. Dr. Christoph Ausch, Department of Surgery at the Göttlicher Heiland Hospital Vienna, surgical experts* are invited to the St. Josef Hospital in Vienna on April 12th and 13th, 2024 to exchange ideas and discuss a wide range of topics: From arterial Relevant areas of surgery are covered, from vascular surgery to visceral medicine, hernias, bariatric surgery and reflux, as well as proctology and perioperative management.
The event, which is taking place for the first time as part of the Vinzenz Group Congress Days, presents the combination of theory and practice from all surgical disciplines. Participants gain insights into current challenges and therapeutic approaches, ranging from arterial vascular surgery to innovative, robot-assisted surgical procedures.
The chairmen and speakers offer in-depth insights and discuss various aspects of surgical practice. “The Surgery Congress 2024 was created as a platform for professional exchange and further training, as various surgical disciplines have also developed rapidly,” says Prim. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Johannes Zacherl is convincing.
Best practices and innovation
First, the specialists address issues related to arterial vascular surgery: carotid stenosis is examined from a neurological and surgical perspective and discussed in an interdisciplinary manner. The optimal complement to peripheral bypass surgery and interventional radiological therapy for peripheral occlusive disease is the topic of the second part of this congress day.
The first morning highlights important aspects of perioperative medicine: the range extends from perioperative nutrition and pain therapy to exemplary discussions about disorders of the acid-base balance. New aspects in case law round off the program.
The afternoon begins with topics relating to the medicine of the digestive tract. The program includes established and innovative surgical technical aspects for tumor diseases of the digestive tract with a focus on minimally invasive techniques and robot-assisted operations for stomach and rectal cancer. The possible uses of photon therapy and modern palliative intervention options for cancer of the digestive tract offer further innovative content.
The thematic conclusion of the first day of the congress is various treatment concepts for abdominal wall hernias, especially incisional hernias with diagnostics and prehabilitation, techniques for inguinal hernias and robot-assisted hernia surgery. The focus here is on technical topics such as mesh implants and mesh-free options for general surgery and plastic surgery. “The surgical robot has also provided new impetus in hernia surgery,” says Prof. Zacherl.
The second day of the conference will focus on metabolic surgery, reflux and hiatal hernias. When it comes to proctology, the speakers will cover, for example, prolapse pathology and hemorrhoidal disease. “The experiences of the Vinzenz Group centers involved with the various surgical techniques will form the basis for an interesting discussion,” says Dr. Zikica Jovanovic, head of the special proctology outpatient clinic at St. Josef Hospital and one of the congress speakers.
