During the court session held on July 19, 2023, the charge of “espionage” brought against F. Safarli was replaced by the charge of “intent to spy”. At the next stage, by the decision of the court, the sentence on his arrest was imposed for 2 and a half years.
In addition, employees of the Consulate General of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the city of Tabriz of the Islamic Republic of Iran regularly hold meetings with F. Safarli in prison, and telephone contact is established between him and his family members.
The Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan continues to take necessary measures to protect the rights and interests of Farid Safarli.
